Vedic Meditation
Making meditation easy and enjoyable
What Is Vedic Meditation?

Vedic Meditation is a simple mental technique that uses a mantra, or sound, to guide the mind to subtler states of awareness. It differs from other styles of meditation in that it is easy and effortless. This practice is designed for the busy householder - people with jobs, families, and responsibilities, like you and me.
Why learn Vedic Meditation?
Unlike most other types of meditation that require a level of focus or concentration and thereby require effort, Vedic Meditation involves no control over the mind or attempts to quiet thoughts. It is a simple technique that leverages a mantra to achieve a deeper state of awareness.

In Vedic Meditation, the mantra is introduced as a guest among the thoughts in our mind. The mind is naturally charmed by the sound of the mantra and follows it effortlessly, much like being drawn to a shooting star.
The process requires no effort or concentration, allowing the mantra to carry the mind from the realm of thinking to the awareness of Bliss. This effortless nature makes Vedic Meditation an excellent option for those seeking respite from mental demands.

The Philosophy Behind Vedic Meditation
Understanding the Mind's Nature
The Vedic tradition views the mind as noble by nature, filled with racing thoughts because it seeks greater happiness. The mind is always searching for happiness, akin to how the heart beats and the lungs breathe. Trying to stop the mind from thinking is like trying to stop the heart from beating.

The Mind's Quest for Happiness
The mind continuously bounces from thought to thought, seeking the one that will bring happiness, attempting to solve life's dilemmas. Even if it concludes that we are deficient, it finds comfort in having an answer. However, the mind's search in the realm of thought, which belongs to the relative world, is futile because everything here is impermanent, and the only constant is change.

The Role of the Mantra
In Vedic Meditation, we acknowledge the mind's search for happiness and introduce a mantra to the mental landscape. The word "mantra" comes from two Sanskrit words - "manas" (mind) and "trayate" (a vehicle). The mantra acts as a mind-vehicle, carrying our consciousness to more subtle states of awareness.

The Depths of the Mind
The mind is likened to an ocean, with a vast expanse of stillness and quietude at its center. However, we often remain at the level of thought, mistaking the endless crashing of waves at the shoreline as our identity. We've forgotten our core of timeless Being and pure Bliss, becoming disconnected from this deeper state.

The Process of Vedic Meditation

The mind is naturally charmed by the sound of the mantra and follows it effortlessly, much like being drawn to a shooting star. This effortless nature makes Vedic Meditation an excellent option for those seeking respite from mental demands.
Vedic Meditation FAQ's
I'VE TRIED MEDITATION BEFORE BUT MY MIND WAS TOO BUSY....
In Vedic Meditation, we don't quiet the mind, and we don't control our thoughts. We use a simple technique while sitting comfortably with our backs supported. We allow the mind to think while the mantra guides us towards subtler states of awareness.
HOW IS VEDIC MEDITATION DIFFERENT FROM MINDFULNESS?
Unlike Mindfulness Meditation, which requires a point of focus and intense concentration, we simply allow the mind and body to rest - the mantra does all the work, making this meditation very easy and convenient for the person who has responsibilities, things to do and a never-ending parade of thoughts that just won't quiet down..
DOES VEDIC MEDITATION CONFLICT WITH MY RELIGIOUS BELIEFS?
Not at all. Vedic Meditation is not a religion and does not require that you believe in anything (other than yourself :). Vedic Meditation is a simple, mental technique that can be done by anyone, regardless of religious beliefs, or lack there of.
